Caroline Groom (Chair)

Caroline Groom is the Business Improvement Director of learndirect and is responsible for the development of new programmes as part of implementation of new contract wins. She also leads on self-assessment, inspection preparation and the review of organisational processes to meet business requirements and establish best practice. Caroline has over 14 years experience in the field of work-based learning in a variety of operational and support roles she also sits on the Tripartite Group; a partnership representing AoC, ALP and SSCs. As the ALP Skills Champion for the Business Administration sector, its role in tandem with ALP is to ensure there is an effective robust communication channel with all stakeholders within the skills and employability sectors, e.g. awarding Organisations, sector skills councils and funding agencies.




Naomi Nicholson
Director of Strategic Relationships for Vocational Qualifications
Ofqual

Naomi Nicholson is Ofqual’s Director of Strategic Relationships for Vocational Qualifications. She has been at Ofqual since 2011, working on the regulatory framework and risk analysis. She is now part of the leadership team developing Ofqual’s regulatory approach to vocational qualifications.

Her career started in the voluntary sector as a support worker at a women’s training centre. She went on to work as legal advisor to asylum seekers and refugees and then moved into the civil service in 2009. At the Government Equalities Office she developed a cross-Government strategy on the violence against women third sector and then came back into education, working on National Curriculum test development at QCA.



Sian Warr
Project Co-ordinator
Skills CfA

I am a Project Co-ordinator within the Development Team at Skills CFA.  On a day to day basis I deal with the primary and secondary research and support the delivery of standards, qualifications and skills related projects.  I have worked within the Development Team for seven months and prior to this I was a member of Skills CFA’s Registration and Certification team. 



Kevin Piper
Training Director 
Creative Education

Kevin Piper has taught English for 30 years in schools, university and FE. He has also worked with the EU on international projects and in settings as diverse as Kuwait and Moscow.

Having been teacher, head teacher and school improvement leader he is now part of the delivery partnership for the English Enhancement Programme with the Education Training Foundation.

 

Kevin is delivering training and on the management team rolling out the different course pathways available. In addition, along with Regional Specialists, he helps institutions and individuals choose the pathway that is right for them.



Stella Turner
Head of Qualifications and Delivery
Association of Employment and Learning Providers

Stella is responsible for keeping a ‘watching brief’ on matters related to qualifications and curriculum development. She represents AELP on groups such as the Skills Funding Agency’s Qualifications Approvals and Governance Group and the BIS Vocational Qualifications Forum plus various Awarding Organisation Consultative Committees.
 
Since joining AELP Stella has managed a number of projects, including work related to the Qualification Credit Framework (QCF) Readiness Programme, Functional Skills Support, Unit Delivery Trials, the review of FE Teaching and Training Qualifications and the promotion of Higher Level Skills. More recently she has taken on responsibility for overseeing and managing work allocations within AELP’s delivery team. Stella has always worked in the education and training sector and has over 10 years experience of working for a work based learning provider.
 
As a Senior Training Manager for a large training provider in Bristol, she was responsible for a team of ten, overseeing and contributing to the design and delivery of a range of both government funded and commercial programmes including IT courses, Apprenticeships and NVQs in a variety of occupational areas. Prior to joining AELP Stella worked for the Awarding Body OCR as a Customer Support Manager.
